Because of a £1 million IVF treatment, Britain’s first gay fathers have triplets.

The out-of-the-box family plans to go to court and make history to ensure that all three fathers’ names appear on the triplets’ birth certificates when they are born.

After spending £1 million on IVF to complete their family, the UK’s first gay fathers are expecting triplets.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, 51, and his now ex-husband Tony, 56, became the first British same-sex couple to register as parents 21 years ago.

The three fathers are now set to make history by having all of their names on the triplets’ birth certificates, according to the Mirror, thanks to Barrie’s fiancé Scott Hutchison, 26.

The non-traditional family already has six children, but they spent £1 million on fertility treatments to inseminate their American surrogate with three IVF embryos.

The triplets will be born in the United Kingdom next year.

“It is the most incredible feeling,” the soon-to-be dad Barrie told the Sunday Mirror.

We’re really happy.

“Family comes first.”

Two of the embryos, which have been on ice for 22 years, are Barrie and Tony’s offspring and were part of a clutch that produced their three eldest children.

The third embryo, from a batch frozen in 2019, is the biological twin of Barrie and Scott’s daughter.

This means that two of the babies will be quintuplets for Barrie’s eldest child and one will be a twin for his youngest child.

“I never thought I’d go down this road again,” Barrie says, “but I’m so in love with Scott and have had so much fun with Valentina that when Scott said he’d love to do it again, I jumped at the chance.”

And now we’re expecting a child once more.

It’s fantastic.”

In 1999, Barrie and ex-husband Tony made headlines when they became the first same-sex couple in Europe to become parents through surrogacy.

The couple fought the courts to have their names listed on the birth certificate as same-sex parents.

It now says “parent one and parent two” instead of “mother and father,” which is a huge step forward for the LGBTQA(plus) community.

“It still amazes me that we were able to do it,” Barrie adds.

That fight has been won, and I’m so grateful.

“However, if I have three children, we will have parents one, two, and three, and I will appeal the law once more.”
