This spice found in curry can improve men’s fertility, study suggests

Testosterone levels vary from one person to the other. In some cases, they can be so low that it becomes impossible for them to conceive a child with their partner.

Fenugreek can improve fertility in both men and women

Although there are modern solutions, thanks to technology, to curb these shortcomings, it appears that solutions can also be found in the most natural of places. According to a study conducted by a team of scientists from King George’s Medical University in Lucknow, India, fenugreek seeds and leaves—most typically used in different types of curry dishes—can improve men’s fertility.

The research consisted in giving 100 men between the ages of 35 and 60, 500 mg of Furosap, a supplement that contains substantial amounts of fenugreek, daily for three months. By the eighth week of the experiment, the team noticed that participants were showing signs of overall better sperm quality. By the very end of the study, sex drive, mental alertness and heart health had noticeably improved. The team concluded that:

Furosap is safe and effective in improving testosterone levels and healthy sperm profile.

In the past, fenugreek has also been found to have similar effects in healthy menstruating women by improving the overall sexual function.

Why do some men struggle with low testosterone levels?

Typically, as men age their testosterone levels tends to decrease, which happens to be the case of 40% of men over the age of 45. This is a rather normal part of the process of ageing in men.

However, there are other factors that can be responsible for fluctuating testosterone levels in men, including:

  • Boxy mass index
  • Nutrition
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Certain medication
  • Injury

In other cases, illnesses and genetic disorders can also have an effect on the level of testosterone found in some men.
